DAY 6: USA – Tony’s Blog

Before I bore you to death about my going on’s again… I would just like to clear up one thing that has been brought to my attention… the reason why I left Chesterfield FC…

September last year I found a lump on my neck, and in December I was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma. I underwent treatment with radiotherapy in the months of March and April. I was given the all clear in June and as you can imagine this has had a life changing effect on me. I then decided to leave my role at the club because I just want to go and live my life, and explore the world.

I have to make it abundantly clear that I thank the club for their support throughout the last few months; and the experiences I have enjoyed over the past 12 months on the footballing side, will live with me forever. Chris Turner, Paul Cook and all the staff have been so supportive through my treatment, and I am eternally grateful. I left the club on very good terms and I wish them every success for the forthcoming season.

photo 2This morning was the first time I’d had the obligatory US breakfast of coffee and croissants. Kansas City does seem to be a very chilled out city and everyone is so friendly.

It was 28°c at 8.30am and it is forecasted for 37°c later on today. I was just chatting to a guy at the swimming pool and we were discussing the weather. He mentioned about the tornados they get here in Kansas. I asked when the tornado season was and he replied, “just about now”! I might be hanging onto my hat later on.

photo 1I had the most beautiful peppercorn steak for lunch at a restaurant called Majestic on Broadway, accompanied with asparagus, mash and gravy.

Man City where holding an open training session at Sporting Park ahead of the game on Wednesday night. I managed to get over to see what was going on. The temperature must’ve still been 35°c at 7pm! I was dripping in sweat just by just sitting watching it.

photo 3There was a good turn out from the locals to see their Premier League heroes. Man City have brought a squad which is lacking all of the players that played in the World Cup. Though it will be interesting to see what team they do put out as I’m guessing it will still be an XI of full internationals.

I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow night as it will be intriguing to see what teams both clubs will field.
