I’m 43 years young and was lucky enough to be a professional footballer for 21 years. Not a bad feat considering that in the first 11 years of my career I was an active alcoholic and drug addict.
My lifestyle consequently landed me in prison for a short period; and also 4 months in a residential clinic for drink and drug abuse.
Due to me failing my second random drug test while playing for West Bromwich Albion, I ‘infamously’ became the first and only player to date to be banned for life from football.
As my reports were so good on leaving the clinic the Football Association decided to give me a second chance… GOD IS GOOD!
I continued to play for another 10 years, and finally retired at age 38 with Chesterfield FC where I’m currently employed as Fitness Coach.
Overcoming adversity in my life has moulded me into who I am today, and eventually I realised it’s actually okay to be ME.
On April the 27th 2014 I was 16 years clean and sober… GOD IS GOOD!
